The area is famous for the bull redfish and the outstanding spotted gator seatrout fishing, however mixed in here are the Florida Atlantic black drum. Along with snook and tarpon.

These fish are not typically a targeted game species however being part of the "drum" family along with the trout, whiting and reds they do offer some high quality fights on the backcountry flats with light tackle fly or spin.

There is a huge abundance of drum in the central Florida area including the Cocoa Beach, Daytona Beach, Edgewater, Port Canaveral, Palm Bay, Titusville and New Smyrna Beach waters.
